Biography
Bob Avila returned to the World's Greatest Horseman in 2007 — seven years after his first title — and claimed his second championship aboard Light N Fine, a Grays Starlight son. The return validated what his 2000 victory had suggested: that Avila's ability to develop and present champion-caliber horses was not a one-time achievement but a hallmark of one of reined cow horse's most accomplished training programs.
Light N Fine was a horse Avila trained comprehensively for every phase of the WGH — not a specialist shaped for one event but a complete performance horse prepared for the full breadth of what the championship demands. The Grays Starlight bloodline, which had already produced Katie Starlight for Ted Robinson's 2001 title, added another WGH chapter with Light N Fine's 2007 campaign.
Avila's two WGH titles, won in different decades with different horses from a common bloodline, speak to the depth and consistency of his program. His reputation in the reined cow horse world extends well beyond his competitive record — encompassing his contributions to rider education, his horsemanship clinics, and his role in advancing the standard of western performance across multiple generations of competitors.
